Your Kindle eBooks have the advantage of taking up no space-they don’t sit on a shelf, you don’t have to carry them around, and they last forever, even if your dog has a taste for paper. Even better, more than one person can read the same eBook at the same time, which is impossible with a paperback. If you have a family of readers, you’ll be happy to know that you only need to buy a book once and then everyone in the house can share the same Kindle books. It’s easy to share your Kindle books with the rest of your family (up to one other adult and four kids), but before you do that you need to set up a Family Library using a feature called Amazon Household. The Amazon Household feature in your Amazon account gives you sharing capabilities that go well beyond just your Kindle book library.

After setting it up, you can share Prime Video and other Prime benefits as well. You’ll need to get started on the Amazon webpage in a web browser. Open Amazon and log into your account, if needed. Then click Accounts & Lists at the top of the page, and www.Uneditedmeat.Com click Amazon Household in the Shopping programs and rentals section near the bottom of the page. Now it’s time to invite your family. Click Add adult to add your spouse or partner and send an invite to their email address. Follow the instructions on the webpage to agree to share the ability to make purchases for your account, and then on the next page choose what Amazon content you want to share-this is where you can share your Kindle eBook library. You can also add your kids (12 and under) by selecting Add Children. Depending on how you configured your Amazon Household, you’re either already there or almost done. When you created your Amazon Household, you had the option to choose which Amazon content you wanted to share. If you left the eBooks option checked, then your eBook library will automatically appear on your other family members’ Kindles. Mission accomplished! They can open your books and start reading. If you didn’t check that box, though, you get to pick and choose which particular books you want to share. On the Amazon webpage, click Account and Lists and then click Manage content and devices in the Digital content and devices section of the page. On the Digital Content page, click Books. Here you’ll find a list of all the books you’ve ever purchased for your Kindle. Use the checkboxes to select the books you want to share, then click Add to Library at the top of the page. Choose the family members you want to share with, and the books will be available on their Kindles.

California’s tax system, which relies heavily on the wealthy for state income, is prone to boom-and-bust cycles. While it delivers big returns from the rich whenever Wall Street goes on a bull run, it forces state and local governments to cut services, raise taxes or borrow money in a downturn. During the Great Recession, the capital-gains taxes that sustained the state in good times plummeted. School districts handed out 30,000 pink slips to teachers, and the state was so cash-strapped it gave out IOUs when it couldn’t pay some of its bills. California is now enjoying one of the longest economic expansions in state history, but the good times can’t last forever. With an "inevitable recession lurking in our future," Gov. Jerry Brown has warned, state and local governments are more vulnerable than ever to teacher and police layoffs, park and library closures and cuts in health and welfare services for the poor. Past bipartisan efforts to reduce volatility without raising taxes on the poor and working class have had limited success. The overall tax structure hasn’t been updated, leaving parts of the economy taxed at some of the nation’s highest rates while other sectors, such as services-which many other states do tax-aren’t taxed in California. Politicians like to talk about the problem, explaining how Proposition 13, the famous 1978 measure that limited property taxes, has created unequal tax burdens. Yet few have been willing to initiate change. Let’s take a deeper look at California’s tax structure, examine the tradeoffs we live with as a result and explore what changes might be afoot. We’ll walk you through what we live with today, the problems we encounter and the proposals to fix them. This reporting project was produced in partnership with the Ravitch Fiscal Reporting Program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. California state and local governments received $419 billion from taxes, fees and federal funding in 2015, the most recent data available from the U.S.
